NOTE: For starters – take note of what your WordPress Theme is as you’ll need this for a full install as this process is just a quick backup that exports your websites content & stores the data in an XML file.

I save this file in 3 separate places, generally

  • On my computer
  • On an external hard drive
  • And lastly up in the cloud; Dropbox is awesome!

This is in case something happens with my website then I’ve got backups stored everywhere.

Creating a User couldn’t have been any simpler … in your Dashboard USERS > ADD NEW

Enter details then select the type of ROLE the user will have access to  ADD NEW USER

You can edit the user & also include an image too

The easiest way to create a CONTACT US form is to search for a PLUGIN that specifically does this for you.

In your DASHBOARD, go to:

Look for one that serves it purpose, I’m using CONTACT FORM 7, then

Manipulating the CONTACT US Form

Go to your DASHBOARD > CONTACT > CONTACT FORMS (a form has been automatically generated for you)

Then go to the MAIL tab, check your email address &everything else is correct, click SAVE.

In the CONTACT > CONTACT FORMS screen you’ll see the name of your CONTACT FORM & there’ll be a SHORTCODE next to it.

Copy that, ADD a CONTACT US page … paste the SHORTCODE in there & PUBLISH

Now you should have a CONTACT US page that people can fill out & when it sends, it’ll go directly to the email you’ve setup in WordPress.

Issues Copy/Pasting from Word

A person came across a problem where they had written content for their website in Microsoft Word, copied it & then pasted the data DIRECTLY INTO THEIR WEBSITE.

Sometimes it looks alright & other times it could look really weird with different fonts, special characters or symbols; it just stuffs up your formatting.

Why does Word affect your content?

Although you can’t see it, when you copy/paste out of Word you take a whole bunch of hidden formatting bits & pieces. But don’t freak, there’s an easy way to fix this!

If using a WINDOWS computer, search for NOTEPAD, built into the system, seems MACS use TEXTEDIT

What is NOTEPAD?

Notepad is a text editor that should be already installed on your Windows computer. It’s used for editing plain text files & for our purposes we are using it as a “dumping ground” to get rid of any hidden formatting issues that we copied out of Word.

Use NOTEPAD to fix Word Formatting Issues

Now comes the fun part … COPY the content from Word & paste it into Notepad.

Copy from Word to Notepad

Copy from Word & paste into Notepad

Then copy the text out of Notepad & paste it into your website POST or PAGE & you’re done!

Notepad fixes Word Formatting

It doesn’t look like anything’s changed but all those hidden surprises attached behind the scenes in your Word document have now gone.

Simple task but if you’re NONE THE WISER, hours will be lost mucking around trying to fix your content unnecessarily!

Really can people see my website?

It’s really easy to check …

  1. Open up Google
  2. Type in:
    • site:YourDomainName

    • Click ENTER
  3. If you’re indexed by Google your pages should show up
  4. If NOT indexed yet, keep populating your site with content! indexed by Google
